The story of Atelier Durdan — French makers of traditional razors
Sometimes it is the hard moments that give rise to the finest adventures. The story of Atelier Durdan begins this way, in a turning and milling workshop that was struggling to find its path.
One summer, during a conversation with his cousin, a keen traditional shaver, Augustin discovered a whole new world of possibilities. With the free time his work left him, he set about creating a first safety razor prototype. He named it "Le Maurice", in tribute to his grandfather, who had recently passed away.
The first attempts were far from perfect, but the passion was there. The time spent refining every detail, understanding every parameter, became a source of satisfaction rather than a constraint. That perseverance eventually paid off: in early 2022, the workshop's first hand-machined razors came to life in France.
The adventure took a new turn in early 2023 with the arrival of Chloé. Her expertise in finishes allowed the workshop to reach a new level in the quality of its creations, offering exceptional shaving instruments.
Our logo tells a story of its own: on one side a mountain, recalling Augustin's Alpine roots, and on the other a drill tip, symbolising the technical precision we seek in each of our creations. It is this union of respect for tradition and technical excellence that guides every razor made in our French workshop today.
